happy ho! ho! ho! to you

xoxo.

on the road again!

so three/four weeks later, you finally get another picture....due to the usual busy holiday routine. dead batteries in the camera. finally go to store and get new batteries. dead batteries in the tv remote. switch batteries from camera to remote. priorities, right?

we're leaving for yorktown and lynchburg tomorrow a.m. we'll be the ones packed in the wagon with the 2 yellow dogs looking out the back window. honk! if you love road trips.

here's the 2006 baby of the year with an old harrod's 2002 bear of the year. enjoy! we apologize for the fuzziness.

hoop dreams and a big tv

davis saw his biggest tv this weekend. we drove to chapel hill to see the tarheels run laps around gardner-webb. not that we thought gwu would win. but we knew it would be our best chance to get tickets to a game inside the "dean dome." davis enjoyed watching the huge jumbotrons. he was a great sport. he stayed awake the entire game, even standing on our laps most of the time! he liked watching the game on the court and listening to the band in the section right next to us. but I think his most favorite part was the jumbotrons. he may even have been thinking, "now that's a tv!" grandaddy bill and uncle cricket will be so proud to know that davis has already started studying the game and paying close attention to sports.

we finished off the day with his first college tour where he liked looking at the bell tower, but fell asleep by the time we reach the well for a photo op. on our way back home, we stopped in to meet tom, lizzy and farley-dog. but davis was so tired by then he zoned out during most of the visit. or maybe he's just a bit shy already.

we're off to atlanta for thanksgiving this week. where there will be many granmoms waiting to get their hands on a baby. we hope your holiday is filled with much joy and happy times. and we give thanks for great friends like you.

one happy fan.

i'm with the band.

the velveteen pumpkin

well that's about all! .....all the photos & costumes from davis' 1st halloween : ) as you can see he was all about the treats for the occasion. he is so excited about that chocolate bar and he doesn't even know why yet! i assume its because the wrapper crinkles. and anything that makes little noises is fun to him. he enjoys going to the doctor because they lay out a whole role of paper for him on the examination table. yay! what fun! i get to kick the paper and crinkle it up for a $15 a visit. after 4 visits within the last month, that is one expensive roll of tissue paper.
it's hard to believe that it was just one year ago that we first learned about davis and his upcoming arrival into our lives. it's amazing how much your life can change in 12 short months. (although, THANKFULLY, those 7 long months of nausea & morning sickness seem very distant now.) this time last year, we first saw davis about the size of a grain of rice on a black and white screen. and now, he's a vibrant, vocal and sweet 17.5 lb pumpkin. looking around our house, there are piles of folded baby clothes and more in baskets waiting to be folded, super-sized bulk cans of formula, pacifiers on every table & countertop, a sink full of bottles, bibs here & there, mickey mouse clubhouse on the tv, swings, seats, rattles, lotions, creams and..........well, we wouldn't have it any other way.
doesn't it make you want another one? nope. not quite yet. besides, i've got more spoiling to do on this one.

un leon mas feroz

a most fierce lion - or.....maybe not. in fact, it's just the opposite. instead of the fear of a lion wanting to eat you, how can one resist wanting to just eat up this little cutie? davis has even been working on his rrr' sounds in hopes to have a loud ROAR... one day. that, and the desire to be like his mama and perfect the rrrrroll of the spanish tongue. -ha ha- but he has mastered the soft "a" sound like you would say for the doctor when he checks your throat. so eloquent, that child.

and tonight, davis made zach & i the most proud parents ever. he was the absolute best-behaved, most-lovable and easy-going baby! no fussing. no flinching. no squealing, squalling, squinting or even sour looks. just an alert, calm, happy boy. he even went in and out of cat, uhumm - excuse me, "lion cub naps" without a peep. we went to visit with friends for Halloween, trick or treating, passing out candy, jumping out of bushes to scare little kids coming up the walk (how cruel - adults behaving badly.) and late night munchies. the other parents were praising davis about how well adjusted and well behaved he was. as if zach and i really had anything to do with that. it truly is a matter of luck and today our number was called. all i can say is thank you, davis! for making us look like we know what we're doing. we sure fooled them!

boo. quack. aww.

has it really been that long since we posted anything? just today i was thinking how fast time is flying by. i mean, really, two more days until november. two more months until 2007. it will no longer be davis' year that he was born. the year of the dog. on a chinese calendar of course. how appropriate. "the year of the dog." or as i'm sure darby and rio would like to think..."the year of the dogs." thank goodness 2006 wasn't the year of the snake, or worse, the rat. ick.

well, i squeaked by five months of having a child who didn't spit up too badly. until tonight. the glamour of being a mom just got knocked down another couple notches. mom glamour? obviously, that's a joke. my daily hairstyle is wash, blow dry and ponytail. shoot, some days it's straight from wash to ponytail. the blow drying part is a luxury. even makeup doesn't get applied until after we have made the drop-off at daycare. anyway, tonight davis and i cozied up for his last bottle before bedtime. everything was great as usual until this hacking cough came from deep down inside. hack. hack. hack. and up it came. the biggest formula based lugey ever. right into my lap of nice clean pajamas. so what did i do? i waited. i just quietly sat there for a moment for the grossness to sink into my clothes and the realization of one, make that two, more things to clean up to sink in to my head. there was not a burpcloth or towel within arm's reach. and i knew if i stood up too quickly, the spit up would run off me and davis, and then i would have to clean the rug and the furniture of this goo also. so in my most un-glamourous moment yet, davis and i looked at each other in question. he questioned if i was going to do something about the mess and clean us both up. and i wondered if there was perhaps a second round of projectile white slime coming my way.

despite the 1% of the time (as mentioned above) that davis is being a gross boy, he is all snuggly soft and sweet the other 99% of the time. he loves to melt into you when you hold him. that makes it so hard to sit him down and not hold him all. the. time. not to mention that you're trying to make up for the nine hours lost to daycare. (which he loves! we are so blessed to have such great people caring for him during the day.) still, i wish i could put a scratch n' sniff button on your screen so you too could smell his sweetness, or even feel his soft huggable-ness and warm bundle of love.

happy fall y'all

davis is enjoying his first autumn afternoon watching the leaves fall from the trees on the courthouse lawn in shelby. could he be any cuter?

my cousin's eyes

here is davis with his cousin skylar relaxing on the floor in virginia. don't let skylar fool you, she probably jumped up the second after the picture was taken to hunt down a poor dog. take a good look at these kids' eyes....so much for brown eyes being the dominant gene. i also think skylar would make a great punky brewster should they ever bring the show back. lord knows, she's got the energy!

too cool for us

davis decided he was too cool to smile for the camera wearing his first pair of sunglasses. i think i even see a little bit of attitude in him in this picture. how quickly he catches on. but don't worry, he got over it pretty quickly and we caught another snapshot of him goofing around later.

thank goodness for camera phones. zach and i never think to bring the camera in the diaper bag. but if we are lucky, we remember to pull out the cell phones to snap a quick pic when needed. davis attended the gardner webb vs. appalachian state football game this weekend. he had a great time listening to all the crowd, the band and the players' moms ring the cow bells. staring at the stadium lights seemed more interesting than watching the game. and somehow, he didn't get upset when tired even after not napping much earlier in the day. with all the new sights and sounds, he didn't want to miss a beat. i think we are making up for it today though. when he's tired, he has started a new tired cry we have never really heard before.

oh well. at least we had a few good laughs and smiles this morning.

having fun

me eyebrows

this is davis' favorite position. belly to shoulder. if he's crying? i don't bother trying to cradle & rock back and forth. the boy wants air. and height. if dad's around...even better.

let's see...it looks like those would be zach's ears, zach's hair, zach's eyes, zach's cheeks, zach's chin, but those are definitely me eyebrows! thank goodness there's a gap between them. (both his and mine.) :)

carolina girls...

molly in pink, kate in yellow!

best in the world!

last weekend we finally got to meet mary & will's twin girls, molly and kate! and vice versa! molly and kate were so well behaved and davis, well....he slept. the girls are about 6/7 weeks older than davis and 3 lbs lighter. i keep telling myself that this is the first difference between girls and boys. boys are bigger. and boys are heavier. i also keep reminding myself that molly & kate are twins, and twins are usually a tad smaller, too. anything to keep from realizing the truth of how big and tall davis will be one day. anything to keep my mind off of how much our grocery bill will be that same day.

here are the cute carolina girls! silly molly, and kate on candid camera. :)

the happy chair

If you're in the market for a baby gift or perhaps a remedy to your own crying baby, we highly recommend a happy chair. What is a happy chair? Its a bouncer, vibrating seat and babysitter all in one, and all for the reasonable price of $25. Mom found the chair at babiesrus and it's made by Fisher Price "Calming Vibrations" model. We use it all time. In fact, I'm worried we are over-using it. Davis' feet are already sticking over the edge because he's probably out grown the seat. The instructions read that the chair should only be used to a certain weight. I'm sure we've passed the weight limit. But I'd like to go by age. Since our baby is rather big now for his age group. As you can see Davis really enjoys the happy chair whether its for hanging out, relaxing, sleeping or capturing sweet photographs. On many occasions I've wished someone would make a super-sized happy chair for tired and sore mamas. I'm available to test any prototypes.

little flirt

Davis is becoming quite the social butterfly. Mostly by no choice of his own. And with many thanks to friends who allow us to go out with kid-in-tow. For the most part he does pretty well. That is, until he wakes up and realizes that he is neither being fed, rocked or bounced on a shoulder. He has become a pro at pushing out his bottom lip to pout and also at making his lip and chin quiver. Its too cute. But then come the screams and squeals, and the cuteness goes away. I know its hard to believe he could ever be unhappy when he's smiling at Maria like that! Sweet boy.

I just wrote out a good size entry, and don't you know I lost it when uploading the pictures. So now you get "just the pictures" because I don't have the patience right now to rewrite what I lost. Ugh.

big feats

Davis had several firsts this week. His first trip by airplane, first week at daycare, his....wait, airplane? That's right, Davis has been up to 37,000 feet and back down again. Twice! The airline even gave him a flight certificate. Last weekend we went to New York to see Francois and Severine before they left for Egypt. We had a great time visiting with old friends and making new ones. And one would have thought Davis was an experienced traveller since he didn't cry at all on the plane. Well, New York is the third state he's been to....even if we do live 5 miles from the state line. I guess he was saving his tears up for the walk to baggage claim.

For one week, Davis was the star of daycare - being the youngest one of all. The infant room teachers said everyone wanted to come visit to see and hold the new baby. We definetly got our money's worth for the week with all the extra care and attention he received outside the usual two teachers. But on Friday, I saw a new basket right beside Davis' name on the basket shelf. "Ford." I used to babysit for a family with a "Ford" at the Isle of Palms. When I asked who this child was, I was told he is a new baby who is supposed to start daycare next week. They thought he was even a few weeks younger than Davis. Well babe, your time in the spotlight was short, yet sweet. There's a new kid on the block.

We've always known Davis was destined to have big feet being part of the Trogdon and Winslett family trees. And even on Davis' birthday I noticed his feet were miniatures of Zach's. They both have a big toe that is slightly separated from the rest - great for wearing flip flops... As we were waiting for our plane at the airport, I couldn't help but to snap this picture.

.....airport. The 3 hour delay didn't bother him.

long time, no sleep.

Well, obviously not for Davis, but for Zach and myself. Gone are the days of sleeping in on the weekends and not over-sleeping for work during the week. Goodbye to the nights of sleeping soundly for at least five/six hours straight. Farewell to being a heavy sleeper. Hello to waking up at the sound of nothing at all just to see if the baby is still breathing. Welcome to Parenthood. We have definitely arrived.

We have been so busy these past few weeks, we haven't even had the time to let the exhaustion sink in. But in the back of my mind I know its there. Waiting. Well, at least we've had a great time wearing ourselves out. Davis and I got to visit my Granmom while she was in Gaffney with her church picking peaches and shopping at the outlets. However, Granmom didn't get around to the shopping part. There was only enough time to hold Davis for about two hours. Cousin Meggie and Charlie stopped by on the way to a conference to see the newest and littlest Trogdon. Davis had his first road trip to Wilkesboro to meet the Hamby 6 and the Molnars, too. I've gone back to work and Mom is here helping with Davis for two weeks. And I think that's only half of it.

I've added two new pictures...Davis smiling during a sweet dream and another that I think looks just like his pose in the first photo posted on the site. How he's grown! 13 lbs now - Can you believe it?

noah's arks

As promised, here are some pictures from our 'somewhat' recent visitors. 'Somewhat' referring to last month but due to my own fault, they are just now reaching the site.

Aunt Amy and her crowd were returning from the beach, and we met in Gaffney for a coffee & nephew fix. They pull up in two large white boats. And the feet kept on coming out, two by two, from all possible exits. The back of the land yachts looked like they had packed for 40 days and 40 nights....yet it was only a week vacation at the beach. What I would do for a suntan these days. Nothing ruins a summer like your doctor telling you that you cannot go swimming for at least eight weeks. But then again, Davis IS the best consolation prize.

It was a nice visit. Davis was snatched from my arms before I could even shut the car door, and he was passed around for a good, solid hour. Amy's own show & tell. Meanwhile, I sat back and enjoyed a venti coffee light frappuccino. Yes, it was so good that I remember exactly what I ordered.

At last, here are the photos. Not too bad for a 1/2 dozen camera phones.

how are the dogs?

Is a question we get a lot, especially coming from friends that know our "first babies" each have four hairy yellow legs. But Darby and Rio have adjusted fantastically and are also very excited about our new addition to the family.

They were both a bit anxious on Davis' first day home. They panted constantly. Not only had we left them for four days, but what was "this thing" we brought home and was now receiving all of their usual attention? They quickly came around and became very curious and protective of Davis. You can most likely find one if not both dogs laying in the same room as the baby either by the crib or the bassinet. The dogs' favorite parts about having Davis around are all their new visitors and visitors bearing gifts. This would include the UPS driver who delivers to our neighborhood. Thankfully, she likes dogs so much that she comes with her own dog treats in hand. In fact just last Friday, Darby followed her back to the truck and climbed in hoping for a ride and maybe more treats.

What amuses us most about the dogs is that they love presents. If you walk in from the store with a plastic bag, they assume its contents are for them and hurry to stick their noses in to check it out. Likewise for nicely wrapped baby gifts. The joy they find in helping us unwrap and open the packages! All we have to do is say "Presents!" and Darby comes running for the fun. All in all, they would love to be our best helpers....Darby would love to help out by giving Davis a bath of puppy kisses. And Rio would love to help Davis break in all of his new toys. Especially the squeaky ones.

This picture is of Rio enjoying a nap with Davis.

the littlest firecracker

Although you wouldn't know it from his pictures, Davis is staying awake with us more and more each day. He usually likes to hang out with us for about an hour both in the morning and at 10 o'clock at night when we are winding down. (At least it's not in the middle of the night!) During this time his favorite activities are waving his arms, kicking the legs and listening to music. Simple pleasures.

We should also report that Davis received a clean bill of health for his 1 month check up at the doctor's office this week. I am proud to tell that he has jumped from being in the 25th percentile in weight at his first visit to reaching the 70th percentile weighing in at 10 lbs 6 oz. What a kid. He is also now 22 inches long (50th percentile).

Our Fourth of July was pretty uneventful, but very relaxing. This weekend we finally got the nursery, well, looking like a nursery. And the way I like to look at it is that Davis wasn't due until this week anyway, so we are still on time. Right? (Right.) We have had so many visitors in the past few weeks I know I have a lot of news to catch up on. But because it's late already, I will have to save those stories for another time. So sorry to disappoint you this time, but it gives you something to look for in the future.

I think Davis expresses it best in the picture below. Night, night.

the proof is in the pictures

The jury is in. After reviewing baby pictures of myself and zach, it is concluded that Davis is 9 1/2 parts Zach and maybe 1/2 parts Stephanie. Here are two of Zach's baby pictures to prove the point.

mini me - more like mini z...

Davis is, no doubt, Zach's son. In so many ways.....

He eats all the time. Just after I think he's full, he'll turn around and want to eat more. I bet he sees Zach doing the same thing. After dinner, Zach gets up to see if there is anything else in the cabinets that should have made it to his plate. On the weekends, the doors to the pantry stay open all the time. No need to close them, Zach searches for new food to apparate in the cabinets every 10 minutes.

Despite my sleep deprivation, Davis is doing great and pushing 9 lbs now. A pudge boy now, he doesn't look like the same baby we met for the first time three weeks ago. Davis Heffernan Trogdon is his new alias.

Even though Davis is packing on the lbs, and Zach rarely seems to gain weight - Davis looks more and more like Zach everyday. From his head to his toes. Everything he has it looks as if he got from Zach. We are all still waiting on the eye color though. All of Zach's family is pulling for brown eyes. (They all have blue.) All of my family is hoping for blue eyes. (All brown and green here.) It is the same concept of you want what you don't have. However, seeing as Davis is a miniature version of his dad. I'm starting to hope for brown eyes, too. Then I'll definitely be able to say he got something besides his sense of humor from me. :)
